Description

What sound captures the mystery and infinite potential of a Thursday night at Burning Man? The warmth of the sun dissipated and the dusty city had gone electric, so I traded in my upbeat daytime disco sounds for a deeper shadowy sound: "dark funk." To me, dark funk is syncopated bass lines, pitched-down vocals, and muscular drums… all with enough space to let each polished instrument stand out. This is my Thursday night set (10:30-11:30PM) on the Sugar Cubes, an instant landmark in their first year on the Esplanade skyline. Big thanks to Alex & Charles Green, Keegan Olton, Dan Kaminsky, and the rest of the team that brought the Cubes to life this year-- it was an absolute pleasure to play on them. p o p s t a c k
