Monday Night 3 & Esplanade. Opening Party at Illumination Village. Burning Man 2023. Let me attempt to paint the scene and tell you a little story. This set was a wonderful journey from riding across the Playa solo in the heat of the six pm sun, right on time to jump on and get the music on to serenade the golden orb as it began its transition behind the mountains. Because this happens when the sun is still so high it feels like the twilight goes on for hours out there, everything takes on a hyper reality because of the light it really does seem otherworldly! The golden lining on the mountains glows like a snake lying across the peaks. At the same time the heat begins to go out of the air and it's much easier to be out the open and moving in the cooler air. Being on the Esplanade I had an amazing view from the decks out to the open Playa and the Man and as the evening began to get darker things at the illumination village really started to fire up, literally. It's a fire art village so things were just exploding all the time in front of me and then the opening weeks fireworks began to light up around the city. Friends came, friends went, on foot, on bicycles, on art cars and there was dust there was dancing and fire everywhere! It really felt like I was at Burning Man ;-) I played this set moment to moment with no plan and just feeling the vibes of what was in front of me. Safe to say I was having much fun, hope you feel that in this recording, my only one from the week. What made this even more special for me was that for every year I've been at Burning man the Monday party after the event was always such a favourite moment for me. After the week all the art cars gather around Illumination Village to blow off all the excess Propane. There is no music just the sound of exploding fire art all night long. I love it! All the burners still left on playa after breaking down camps and all the other things come together and gift and hold each other in a magical moment as the last party of the event. So it was super nice for me to gift you all with music and open the week there this time. What a special Burn........ again ;-) Thank you to Mark and Hillary and The Illumination Village for having me play and making this party such a blast. I hope you all enjoy the recording now again XX
